Dusseldorf Airport connection with Baggage

Hello Fellow Travelers,

Here are the details and question, and thank you for reading!

1. Landing at 8AM on American Airlines from JFK into Dusseldorf.

2. Will have 1 checked bag.

3. Connecting to a separately purchased ticket on Lufthansa to Paris at 11AM, same day.

Is 3 hours from landing to departure enough for passport control, collecting baggage, and checking the baggage into the new flight? If it is enough, how long do you foresee it taking?

I have many options for getting to Dusseldorf to Paris, including later flights (and there is always the train), but this is going to be the easiest scheduling for me. What do you think?

Thank you,

TT

Can't you check your bag through to Paris? I've been able to check my bag through to final destination even if on different carriers.

3 hours is enough to transfer.

3 hours should be fine as long as your plane into Dusseldorf isn't extremely late. Your risk is that these are separate tickets and if you miss the second flight you will be a no show and will have to buy a tickets for another flight at the walk up rate.

I would look at the ontime record of the flight you are arriving on - to see what your chances are.

Thanks so much. The flight is an over-night and arrives first thing in the morning, so I doubt it'll be too late. Appreciate the advice.

Düsseldorf is a very compact airport. Everything is fast and ways are short. Don't worry. However, if your plane is heavily delayed, phone Lufthansa and change to a later flight.
