Toulon (Provence), France
I will be going on a cruise that will stop in Toulon for a day. I would appreciate any suggestions for this stop. I was thinking that a trip to Aix-en-Provence would be nice. Suggestions on this would be welcomed as would how to get there. Thank you all in advance for your responses.

I think this will depend in part how much time you actually have in port. It looks like Aix is about 85 km from Toulon - so about an hour's drive or more. I'm assuming you'd need to rely the train, so you'll have to figure out where you dock and where the station is. From what I have read, it may require a taxi from the port to the station. It looks like there are trains throughout the day, but you'd still need to plan your time accordingly. The following website will give you some helpful info to consider. http://www.seat61.com/France-trains.htm

The shortest train time between Toulon and Aix is 1 hour 25 minutes. Many others take 2+ hours. That would be 3-4 hours of train time for a peek at Aix. You might want to consider Marseilles or Hyères or Le Ciotat as an alternative.

I've passed by Toulon many times, but never stopped. These people seemed to enjoy it, though:
