Comparison between Ritz Cancun & Secrets Maroma, pls advise
Hi all,
I love good seafood. My husband like good steak, mexican and chicken dish. We never been to AI. I am trying to decide between Ritz Cancun or Secrets Maroma. Is Secrets Maroma restaurants food any good (equal to good gourmet restaurants)? I don't want to be disappointed by staying at AI resort and the food will not meet our expectations. I know that Secrets Maroma beach is way nicer than Ritz Cancun beach. I read reviwes about mosquitos in the Secrets Maroma room and room air condition does not cool down. Your advise is greatly apprciated.

I haven't been to Secrets Maroma, but have been to other Secrets properties. If you're going to go to an AI, you really can't go wrong with Secrets. The food will be better than most of the lower end AI's. My husband is a chef, with pretty high standards, and he didn't complain about their a la carte restaurants. They're good for Mexican standards. They're not what you'd get at a US gourmet restaurant, but they're good for resort restaurants.
As for the a/c, I know some of the resorts have a feature where the a/c units will shut off when the balcony door opens. This is to save energy. A lot of guests don't realize this and they leave their patio doors opened and then don't realize the a/c is off. Then they don't understand why the room isn't cool. Maybe that's what is happening? We've been to about 10 AI's in Mexico and never had a room that didn't get cool enough for us, and we love it cold at night!
Personally, I'd try the AI and see how you like it. We've found them to be a great value in Mexico. If you don't like it, at least you'll know for your next trip back!
