Cock of the Rock Lodge

163 km (101 miles) northeast of, Cusco, Cusco, Peru

This lodge stands at the edge of the cloud forest in Manu's Cultural Zone, and affords an amazing view of the lush Kosñipata River Valley. Owned by InkaNatura Travel, the property takes its name from Peru's red-and-black national bird, which can usually be seen nearby. It is one of hundreds of avian species found in the area, among them 35 types of hummingbird and more than 40 tanager species. The lodge's bungalows are the most comfortable in Manu, with balconies, decent beds, and private bathrooms that have an ample supply of hot water. The minimum stay is two nights, with transportation and naturalist guide included. But, because of the time and high cost of reaching this lodge, it is best combined with the Manu Wildlife Center on a one-week trip.
