White-water rafting trips on the Class III Patate, apt for beginners, and the more challenging Class IV Pastaza rivers are the reason many people head to Baños. Cycling fans won't be able to resist the five-hour, 65-km (40-mi) downhill ride from Baños to Puyo. At the bottom you can board a bus, bike and all, for the return trip to Baños. And at least a dozen tour operators offer excellent horseback riding as day trips or overnight excursions.
