Gudenschwager Hotel Review

The Chilean-born, Los Angeles–raised owner of this property, Pablo Guerra, has taken one of Pucón's oldest lodgings and given it a complete (and much appreciated) overhaul, stripping the paint and reexposing the original wood walls and the old radiators. They've placed queen beds in every room and installed little touches, such as safety rails in the bathtubs, which you rarely see in large hotels in Chile, let alone small inns of this size. They bill a few of the more simply furnished rooms on the top floor as "backpacker" rooms, and they are a definite cut above Pucón's typical budget lodgings. Location is everything here: sitting on the peninsula that juts out into Lago Villarrica, the deck affords both lake and volcano views.
