Fodor's Review

This "village" inside a former cloister sports some 150 shops filled with crafts made of fine leather and wool, semiprecious stones (including lapis lazuli), and greda (Chile's version of terra cotta). There's also a wonderful display of cockatoos and other live birds. It's a nice place to visit, especially on weekends when traveling musicians entertain the crowds. It's open daily 10–8 in summer and 10–7 in winter, and there are two restaurants serving traditional Chilean food. Next door is an attractive whitewashed church dating from the late 18th century. The complex is a bit far afield, but easily accessed by the metro of the same name. If you can find one of the old (paper, not plastic) 2,000 peso bills, the church is on it.
