Getting Here and Around

Visitors to the park can base themselves in the one-horse town of Cambará do Sul, on the RS 020, up in the Serra Geral plateau. From here it's a 20-km (13-mile) drive on the RS 427 to the Itaimbezinho canyon, where you can park and follow one of two relatively easy paths to the rim of the canyon. For the more adventurous, there are a number of more challenging hikes along the base of of the canyons, and the best hub for these is the town of Praia Grande, accessed from the coast via the SC 494, SC 453 or SC 450, where you can hire a guide, though most pousadas will be able to provide their own associated guide. The drive to the top of the Itaimbezinho canyon from Praia Grande is up a steep, winding dirt road, with stunning mountain scenery.
