Getting Here and Around

Aerolíneas Argentinas (www.aerolineas.com.ar) flies six times a day from Buenos Aires, making the trip in two hours and 15 minutes. Jujuy's Aeropuerto Dr. Horacio Guzmán is 30 km (19 miles) southeast of town. La Veloz del Norte, Balut, and Panamericano buses travel between Salta and Jujuy; the latter two continue north to Purmamarca, Tilcara, Humahuaca, and La Quiaca at the Bolivian border. La Quiaqueño buses also depart for La Quiaca nine times a day. Other bus companies serving Jujuy include Andesmar, Atahualpa, and La Estrella.

The city’s one-way grid system is easy to navigate in a rental car or cheap red cab, although traffic builds up a bit around the beginning and end of the siesta. Proceeding on foot is an alternative because Jujuy is flat despite the altitude. Most attractions, restaurants, and hotels are within easy walking distance of Plaza Belgrano; the exception is the Alto de la Viña district, which is worth the 20-peso taxi fare to reach.
