Monumento Natural Bosque Petrificado Sarmiento (Sarmiento Petrified Forest Natural Monument)

Monumento Natural Bosque Petrificado Sarmiento (Sarmiento Petrified Forest Natural Monument) Review

Sarmiento is the jumping-off point for the Monumento Natural Bosque Petrificado Sarmiento, about 30 km (19 mi) from Sarmiento following R26 until you reach the access road on the right. Scattered along a vast and colorfully striated badlands are trunks of conifer and palm trees that were deposited here 75 million years ago when the area was a tropical river delta. Regardless of the time of year, bring a jacket. The wind cools you down quickly even in bright sunlight. If you don't have your own vehicle, book a remis from Sarmiento: most charge around 150 pesos for the return trip and an hour's waiting time.
