Fodor's Expert Review Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum

Portsmouth

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

One block from the waterfront and about three blocks from the paddle-wheel ferry landing, this museum offers a history of Portsmouth, the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and the armed forces in Hampton Roads. The exhibitions give visitors the opportunity to learn about this rich history through artifacts, uniforms, ship models, illustrations, and photographs. You can also explore the retired Coast Guard lightship Portsmouth, a floating lighthouse just outside the museum, whose quarters below deck have been authentically furnished.
