Equinox

3567 Main St., Manchester, Vermont, 05254, USA

The Equinox defines the geographic center and historic heart of Manchester Village, and has been the fancy hotel in town—and in the state—since the 18th century. As you arrive between two-story-tall Doric columns, bellhops uniformed in jodhpurs and argyle knee socks take your luggage. Guest rooms have two-tone cream wallpaper, huge leather chairs, pillow-top beds swathed in luxe linens, and, in a nod to modernity, flat-screen TVs. If you crave the Colonial, the brown 1811 House across the street is part of the resort. Those with big bucks can request a room in the Charles Orvis Inn next door, which has hot tubs and private porches. The spa is the best in southern Vermont, and the resort's golf course is across the street. There's a wine bar in addition to three good dining options.
