This six-acre resort in the middle of downtown San Antonio has a full health club, jogging and bicycle routes, a heated pool and whirlpool, and lighted tennis courts in a setting of fountains and lush gardens. Most memorable are the Chinese pheasants and peacocks that roam the grounds. It's three blocks from the Alamo and a few steps from the River Walk's myriad attractions. The hotel does a brisk convention and meeting business. Chauffeured transportation to the downtown business district is complimentary on weekdays. The owners allow guests free use of bicycles and there are twice-daily maid service and plush bath robes. Pros: Close to River Walk, attentive staff. Cons: Not right on River Walk, fees for extras like parking and Internet.
