Fodor's Review

The University of Tennessee's Smoky Mountain Field School offers non-credit workshops, hikes, and outdoor adventures for adults and families. About 700 participants each year choose from among some 30 experts teaching more than 80 sessions. Classes are held at various locations, usually within the Great Smokies park. Field School programs generally are held on weekends and last from four hours to two days. Fees vary, with most programs $59; overnight guided hikes to LeConte Lodge are $185, and a two-night backpack trip is $155.
