Fodor's Interview with Eric Doksa

Eric Doksa is the food critic for Charleston City Paper, a barbecue nut, and a self-proclaimed beer nerd. Here, he talks with Fodor's about some of his favorite places in the Holy City.

Q: She-crab soup is probably the most iconic Charleston dish. Where do you go for the best version?

A: When I think of she-crab soup, The Wreck of the Richard & Charlene (106 Haddrell St., Mount Pleasant 843/884–0052) immediately comes to mind. It’s quintessentially Shem Creek, low key, but makes a great she-crab.

Q: Where do you go for the best shrimp and grits?

A: It's a tie for me. Husk (76 Queen St., Market area 843/577–2500) and Hominy Grill (207 Rutledge Ave. 843/937–0930).

Q: Are there any new places that you're excited about?

A: Edmund's Oast (1081 Morrison Dr., North Central 843/727–1145). It's such a great concept and it touches all the bases—beer, food, atmosphere.

Q: Do you have a favorite local's joint?

A: Dave's Carry-Out (42 Morris St., Upper King 843/577–7943). It’s a hole-in-wall seafood spot.
