Fodor's Review

This luxury hotel occupies one of Providence's most mysterious buildings, a stately nine-story neoclassical building constructed as a Masonic temple but never occupied. Unpaid construction workers finally abandoned the site just after the stock market crash of 1929. Developers restoring the building incorporated the original architectural features, while the decor pays tribute to its history with framed 1926 Osgood & Osgood blueprints and photos of vintage graffiti found in its once-empty corridors. Ask for a room overlooking the State House, across Francis Street, and dine in the swank on-site Mediterranean restaurant, Temple Downtown.
