Beaches

Pacific City beach. The town's public beach sits between Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area and Bob Straub State Park. Adjacent to Cape Kiwanda's massive 240-foot-tall dune, it's a favorite for kids who often climb its bulk just for the thrill of sliding back down again. Hikers also get a thrill from the top, where the view opens on a tiny cove and tide pools below, and the walk down is infinitely easier than the climb. The beach is also popular with tailgaters—it's one of the few places on the Oregon Coast where it's legal to park your vehicle on the sand. Other parking is available off Cape Kiwanda Drive, near the Pelican Pub. For quieter outings, try the Bob Straub. Amenities: none. Best for: partiers; walking.
