Fodor's Review

Hardwood floors with oriental rugs, chandeliers, antiques, and fountains create a warm and romantic mood at this elegant bed-and-breakfast in the historic Irvington District. The Greek Revival mansion was built in 1910 and is on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. There are a number of common areas for people to gather, both in the house and on the grounds. Rooms have private baths, flat-screen TVs, and mahogany canopy or four-poster beds—and they come stocked

with complimentary fresh-baked cookies or Moonstruck chocolates. A full breakfast is included in the room rate, and the owners offer vegetarian or vegan options.

One of a Kind!

Be prepared to get spoiled rotten at this beautiful Greek revival. Everything about this place is decadent, from the breakfast to the big beds to the bath amentities. Perfect for a couples' romantic weekend getaway or an on-site elegant wedding celebration. Modern conveniences include wireless internet access and flat-screen TVs.

Lovely place

Portland's White House is everything a refined B & B should be: quiet, original contruction, beautifully maintained, well-decorated (without the "cutesy" touches that may come to plague American B & Bs), well-equipped bathrooms that include original fixtures and tiles, excellent bedding. The only area that could be "revised" (and improved) is the breakfast selection, which is a bit heavy on the "sweet" and "adorned" -- and would profit with fresh

offerings (e.g., poached eggs) without sauces, "adornments" etc.
