Crater Lake National Park Travel Guide

Getting Here and Around

Most of the park is accessible only in late June or early July through mid-October. The rest of the year, snow blocks all park roadways and entrances except Highway 62 and the access road to Rim Village from Mazama Village. Rim Drive is typically closed because of heavy snowfall from mid-October to mid-July, and you could encounter icy conditions any month of the year, particularly in early morning.

Notable Quotation

"An overmastering conviction came to me that this wonderful spot must be saved, wild and beautiful, just as it was, for all future generations, and that it was up to me to do something."—William Gladstone Steel, "Father of Crater Lake"
