Fodor's Expert Review Petersen's Rock Gardens

Redmond Garden

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Rasmus Petersen, a Danish immigrant who died in 1952, created this rock garden about halfway between Redmond and Bend. Petrified wood, thunder eggs, agate, jasper, lava, and obsidian was used to architecturally construct miniature buildings and bridges, terraces and towers. Among the structures are a micro–Statue of Liberty and five miniature castles. The attraction includes a small museum, gift shop, and picnic area.
