Fodor's Review

Drenched in decades of tradition, this newly-remoded luxury resort comprising three multi-story buildings and five Carolina beach-style rental homes spreads over 16 quiet acres of Ocean-to-Sound property, five miles north of Duck. Walk through a nature trail in adjacent Pine Island Bird Sanctuary, or sign up for kayak tours, paddleboard lessons, and other activities through Kitty Hawk Kites. The elegant, dinner-only Kimball's Kitchen restaurant has a wall of windows overlooking Currituck Sound. The resort-casual Lifesaving Station, in a restored 1899 former lifesaving station, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and includes a second-floor lounge, No. 5 Bar.
