Ski Area

Belleayre Mountain Ski Center. One of the area's most popular winter destinations, Belleayre Mountain Ski Center in the Catskill Forest Preserve has 50 trails–more than half perfect for intermediate skiers, and the rest split between experts and novices. Owned by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the ski center has 96% snowmaking capability, so there's always powder. There are eight lifts to runs that take you down more than 12,000 feet. If cross-country skiing is more your thing, there are more than 5 miles of trails. Families appreciate the laid-back atmosphere (perfect for kids out for the first time), while serious skiers can find their share of double-black-diamond trails. Skiing and snowboarding instruction and rentals are available. Full-day peak-season lift tickets are $54. A shuttle transports skiers to and from nearby villages. From late April through October, there are biking tracks for all levels, beginner to expert. From Memorial Day through Labor Day you may also swim, boat, and fish at Pine Hill Lake. A lift takes you to the summit, where you can hike or ride the lift back down. Belleayre hosts a popular summer music festival, a craft show in the fall, and a variety of other fun events throughout the year so check their calendar before you visit.
