La Vara

Fodor's Review

Chef Alex Raij, who runs the kitchens at Chelsea tapas favorites Txikito and El Quinto Pino has won over Manhattan foodies with her flavorful Basque cuisine. At this diminutive, exposed-brick-wall-clad Cobble Hill restaurant, she turns to new Iberian territory: Moorish and Jewish-accented Spain. Tender lamb breast topped with a sweet date jam, saffron-hinted rabbit loin, and intense grilled chicken hearts are all hits on a menu of snacks, tapas, and larger plates.

Pair your grazing with a well-made gin and tonic or a glass wine from the affordable Spanish wine list.
