Hyatt Union Square New York Review
Experiencing a bit of "real" New York (and getting away from Midtown) got easier with this 2013 arrival, set just south of Union Square in a newly-built tower with three restaurants, an on-site gym, and bikes and scooters to borrow. As a result of its location in a bustling area near New York University and the crossroads of major subway lines, guests span the business, tourist, and visiting-family demos, along with some staycationing locals. Following an iPad check-in, head up to one of the studio, deluxe studio, or suite rooms. All are smoke-free and pet-friendly, and have signature Hyatt Grand beds, flatscreen TVs that link to an online concierge, work desks, and all the required tech amenities; higher categories enjoy upgraded views and separate living areas. The muted decor features wide-planked oak floors, wood-and-stone baths, black and white hued furniture, and an open bathroom with double-wide shower; best of all, the windows actually open. The three dining options include the fully-stocked Singl bar; the Latin-accented Botequum, with an open kitchen and illuminated wine displays; and The Fourth, an American Bistro with cafe, communal and fine dining areas, and French doors opening out to the city.
