Carmine's Review

Set on a nondescript block of Broadway, this branch of the Italian family-style mainstay is a favorite for families celebrating special occasions, pre-prom groups of teens, and plain old folks who come for the tried-and-true menu items like fried calamari, linguine with white clam sauce, chicken parmigiana, and veal saltimbocca, all served in mountainous portions. Family photos line the walls, there's a groaning antipasti table filled with savory meats, cheese, and salads, and there's a convivial feeling amid the organized chaos. On weekends, only parties of six or more can make dinner reservations.

    Don't go as a couple

Carmines family style works well for groups and well.. families, but as a couple on the town, it was restrictive. The portions are huge, and good quality, but the matre d and server person were both rude. The hostess made sure to tell us that we needed to vacate our table before the next reservation! And our server had to be pushed to tell us you can get a side dish with your enormous meat dish (chicken parm)

Overall, the other restaurants we visited (The Palm, Molyvos, etc) in NYC are extraordinary while this one was ordinary
