Fodor's Expert Review Do Hwa

$$ West Village Korean

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

If anyone in New York is responsible for making Korean food cool and user-friendly, it is the mother-daughter team behind this chic, perennially popular restaurant. Jenny Kwak and her mother, Myung Ja, serve home cooking including kalbi jim (braised short ribs), bibimbop (a spicy, mix-it-yourself vegetable-and-rice dish), and other favorites. The dishes may not be as pungent as in Koreatown but are satisfying nevertheless—in a far more sophisticated atmosphere. The bar area, where movies are projected onto a side wall, gets pretty happening, too.
