Sales taxes vary by municipality in New Mexico; it's 8.3% in Santa Fe, 8.5% in Taos, and 7.5% in Albuquerque. If you're on a budget and plan on renting a car and/or staying in hotels, be sure to ask for the exact amount of your lodgers and rental car taxes, as they can be quite steep and can make a big dent in a tight budget.
