San Marcos Cafe

San Marcos Cafe Review

In Lone Butte, about 6 mi north of Cerrillos (and actually quite a lot closer to Santa Fe than to Albuquerque but nevertheless a fixture on the Turquoise Trail), this restaurant is known for its creative fare and nontraditional setting—an actual feed store, with roosters, turkeys, and peacocks running about outside. In one of the two bric-a-brac-filled dining rooms, sample rich cinnamon rolls and such delectables as burritos stuffed with roast beef and potatoes and topped with green chile, and the classic eggs San Marcos: tortillas stuffed with scrambled eggs and topped with guacamole, pinto beans, melted Jack cheese, and red chile. Hot apple pie à la mode with rum sauce is a favorite. Expect a wait on weekends unless you make a reservation.
