Fodor's Review:

Few folks think of the islands when visiting Tampa, but this 12-story hotel on a 177-acre man-made islet is a short drive from downtown Tampa. The rooms are decorated in whites and bright colors, and many have terrific views of the water or the downtown skyline. Service is attentive. There's a marina and a new fitness center with free weights and the latest exercise equipment. Pros: close to downtown; nice views; on the TECO streetcar line. Cons: a bit far from the action; chain-hotel feel.

Don't go to the Westin. The room was very depressing and looked like a prison in a communist country. Bleak, gray-green walls. Bathroom was in desperate need of a good cleaning-and that's when we first walked in. Service was equally bad. Called the front desk and let it ring for 20 times. No one picked up. When we made the reservations, we were promised free breakfast and free parking because my husband goes to Westin Hotels often. We actually had the confirmation in writing. The hotel refused to honor it. We left the next morning and explained the reason why. They couldn't have cared less. Went to the Hyatt near the Tampa airport. Delightful hotel. Everything was perfect.
