South Seas Island Resort Review
This 330-acre resort feels as lush as its name suggests and is full-service with 19 swimming pools (one with two tubular slides), private restaurants and shops, a nature center stocked with small live animals, a family interactive center, and a 9-hole golf course with attractive water features. Guarded by a gatehouse, stylish low-rise accommodations are scattered all over the property but are concentrated at either end, near the marina and the small shopping complex. Dunes fringe a pristine 2½-mi beach, and mangroves edge the main road. Water on three sides give the resort a delicious seclusion, but trolleys take you around the property.

I am staying at this resort for a business trip and I guess it is ok (however I would not spend my own dime to come here). I have NEVER been at a upscale resort where the beds are so HARD! It is truly amazing, it feels like sleeping on the sidewalk. I also don't care for the lack of restaurants within walking distance. On my side of the resort there are 3, a pizza/ice cream place (think bright lights and bad pizza), a casual dining option and a more formal option. Otherwise everything is about 2 miles away. That is fine if you have a car but if you don't it's a hassle. They do have a trolley that will take you from the hotel area to the front gate (1.5 miles) but it only runs every 30 minutes. So if you want isolation and uncomfortable sleeping conditions this might be the place, I am just rather disappointed in the experience.

We are on this resort for 6 days. Generally it is very nice and very rejuvenating. We have a Land's End 2 BDR villa. The unit is spacious and nicely furnished, very comfortable. However, aggressive beach ants have made the kitchen (which is beautiful!) unusable. All our food is stored in the frig for self defense! If you leave a crumb or drop on the granite counter, they are on it in seconds! I wasn't planning to cook much anyway but this makes it uncomfortable.
One other negative to be aware of: when you book, you are NOT guaranteed a specific location. We came from quite a distance and had never been here before. I specifically requested a water view accommodation and confirmed several times in advance. We are assigned to a golf course view near the pool and were told upon arrival that they do not guarantee specific units! We're positive folks, so we've dealt with it but it's the first time I've been to the beach anywhere where I thought we were paying for water front or water view and didn't get it! We do like this place for the nature and the peace. Watersports are great here.
You do need to drive to restaurants. We won't choose it again though because of the accommodations assignment.

A friend & I are thinking of taking our annual spring break to Sarasoga and Siesta Key.
Can you recommend this or would you recommend somewhere else that might have a tropical island feel?
