Constructed in 1941 by steel magnate Ralph H. Norton, the museum has an extensive collection of 19th- and 20th-century American and European paintings—including works by Picasso, Monet, Matisse, Pollock, and O'Keeffe—and Chinese, contemporary, and photographic art. There's a sublime outdoor covered loggia, Chinese bronze and jade sculptures, and a library. Galleries, including the Great Hall, also showcase traveling exhibits. One of the city's best-kept secrets is this museum's café, with its artfully presented dishes that taste as good as they look.
