Bird-Watching

Evergreen Cemetery. North of Fort Lauderdale's 17th Street Causeway sits an unexpected haven for bird-watchers. It's the city's oldest cemetery (established 1910), and the shade from its gumbo-limbo and strangler figs doubles as a place of repose for Bahama mockingbirds and other species flying through Broward. Warblers are big here, and there are occasional sightings of red-eyed vireos, northern water thrushes, and scarlet tanagers across 11 acres on Cliff Lake. 1300 S.E. 10th Ave., Intracoastal and Inland, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 33315. 954/745–2140; www.fortlauderdale.gov/departments/parks-recreation/cemeteries.
