Crested Butte Nordic Center. Crested Butte abounds with backcountry possibilities. You can rent cross-country skis or snowshoes, and then head out on one of the Forest Service roads that radiate from town—particularly Washington Gulch, Slate River Road, and Gothic Road. Track Skiing

Crested Butte Nordic Center. The community-owned Crested Butte Nordic Center maintains 31 miles of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, many of which start from town. The trails cover flat and moderately rolling terrain across meadows and through aspen groves. A one-day adult trail pass costs $20, although there are 6 miles of groomed trails that don't require a pass. Group classic lessons and private skate or classic lessons are offered daily, as well as training groups for adults and kids. You can also reserve a spot for a dinner at the Magic Meadows Yurt, which includes a 1-mile trek to a cozy yurt for a five-course dinner prepared by local chefs and accompanied by live music; the $185 per-person cost includes a trail pass, equipment rentals, and gratuity.
