Skiing

Mt. Baldy Ski Resort. The 10,064-foot mountain's real name is Mt. San Antonio, but Mt. Baldy Ski Resort—the oldest ski area in Southern California—takes its name from the treeless slopes. The Mt. Baldy base lies at 6,500 feet, and four chairlifts ascend to 8,600 feet. The resort is known for its steep triple-diamond runs; the longest of the 26 runs here is 2,100 vertical feet. The resort also operates a ski and snowboard park. Backcountry skiing is available via shuttle in the spring, and there's a school on weekends for kids ages 5 to 12. Winter or summer, you can take a scenic chairlift ride ($29) to the Top of the Notch restaurant and hiking and mountain-biking trails. 8401 Mt. Baldy Rd., Mt.
