If you drive to Muir Woods on a weekend or during peak season, expect epic traffic jams around the tiny parking areas and adjacent roads. Limited shuttle service (marintransit.org provides weekend and seasonal transport from the Sausalito ferry landing, as well as Marin City; check ahead for availability. Private bus tours run year-round. To drive directly from San Francisco by car, take U.S. 101 north across the Golden Gate Bridge to Exit 445B for Mill Valley/Stinson Beach, then follow signs for Highway 1 north and Muir Woods.
