For years, Uptown Oakland was a hip neighborhood with outstanding restaurants and bars and nowhere to stay—until this ultra-chic Hyatt-flagged property came along. It's a game-changer and quite the design spectacle, from the grand arched windows of its Occitania brasserie to the art-deco lobby. Guest rooms are on the upscale minimalist side with small works of abstract art on the walls and hardwood floors partially covered by rugs, and the furniture leans towards the modern trendy direction. All rooms have helpful blackout curtains and the nicest suites even have their own terrace.
