Stars from Bogart and Bacall to Picasso and Pavarotti have stayed in this ivy-covered hotel famed for its gracious personal service and spacious rooms and suites, most of which have great views of Grace Cathedral, the bay, or the city skyline. Fresh off a $15-million renovation, the Huntington continues to offer its guests the same upscale interiors, customized furniture in rich textures, and luxurious bathrooms they've come to expect. The elegant Nob Hill Spa complex
provides an array of services that can be enjoyed while taking in panoramic city views. Around the indoor pool with a fireplace lounge, white-jacketed waiters serve healthy spa cuisine and champagne—to really chill out, guests can retreat to the Zen room's chaise longues to rest their heads on fuzzy pillows and snuggle beneath super-soft blankets. The Big 4 Restaurant, which serves contemporary American cuisine, has a clubby decor of green-leather booths and a collection of San Francisco and Western memorabilia.

Of all our travels, this hotel is tied for Number 1 on our personal list (with the Konig Von Ungarn in Vienna, Austria). First, the location is unbeatable. Second, we were bumped up to a higher level room on a higher floor because we had to wait TEN MINUTES for the room to be finished. The staff was horrified. I was looking around the lobby, making sure they were talking to me!! 10 minutes??? I could tell you some stories.... The room had an AWESOME
view down to the harbour, and we saw a magnificent fog roll in. The room itself was really large by SF standards and nicely appointed. The bathroom was very nice. Thirdly, the staff. We ordered coffee in the room each morning and it arrived so quickly that it was almost scary. It was like that the entire stay. This is an expensive hotel to be sure. But I would recommend you splurge on your next trip to SF and stay here!!
