Fodor's Review

Feel virtuous and eco-friendly by staying at the first San Francisco hotel built to environmentally stringent LEED specifications, exacting standards that mandate the incorporation of green features such as chemical-free cleaning agents, recycling bins, and a custom guest-room key card energy-control system. Local artist Archie Held's glass water sculpture in the lobby sets a high aesthetic standard. Hotel highlights include junior terrace rooms with private outdoor space

and views of downtown, and a rooftop deck open to all guests, who are invited to bring their own refreshments and take in the sweeping city views. The owner's collection of original artwork is scattered throughout the building and the rooftop garden. Amenities include complimentary car service to the Financial District. Buffet breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner, can be enjoyed at Roots restaurant, which is supplied by organic and local purveyors. The simply styled rooms offer low-flow toilets, textiles in soothing hues of green and gold, and natural woods.
