Indian Canyons Golf Resort. Operated by the Aqua Caliente tribe, this spot at the base of the mountains includes two 18-hole courses open to the public. In the 1960s this was the place to play for celebrities visiting the desert, including presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon Johnson. The North Course, designed by William F. Bell, is adjacent to property once owned by Walt Disney and has six water hazards. The South Course, redesigned in 2004 by Casey O'Callaghan with input from the LPGA player Amy Alcott, has four ponds, hundreds of palm trees, and five par-5 holes. 1097 E. Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort. Conveniently located in Palm Springs near Cathedral City, the resort has two popular courses open to the public. Golfers have been walking the Legend course for more than 50 years—the back nine here are challenging, particularly the greens.
