It's hard to beat Tahoma Meadows for atmosphere and woodsy charm. Fifteen individually decorated little red cottages sit tucked beneath towering pine trees. Inside, they're cheerful, with fun details like model ships on the shelf and a stuffed bear on the bed; some have claw-foot tubs and fireplaces. Lovingly maintained by kind-hearted, on-site owners with two kids and a big white lab, the cottages make a great retreat for families and couples. Cottages without kitchens include a delicious family-style breakfast in the cozy, gable-roof lodge. Down-to-earth and simple, this is one of Tahoe's best hideaways. Pros: Lovely setting; good choice for families. Cons: Far from the casinos.
