Fodor's Expert Review Rhyolite
Beatty
Ghost Town
This Nevada ghost town, named for the silica volcanic rock nearby, is a big draw. Around 1904, Rhyolite's Montgomery Shoshone Mine caused a financial boom, and fancy buildings sprang up all over town. Today you can still explore many of the crumbling edifices. The Bottle House, built by miner Tom Kelly out of almost 50,000 Adolphus Busch beer bottles, is a must-see.
