Hotel Palomar Phoenix Review

A member of the Kimpton group—known for its attractive roster of perks, like complimentary evening wine hour and in-room yoga mats—this 242-room hotel opened in summer 2012 as part of downtown's booming CityScape office-and-retail project. The location is near shopping, dining, entertainment, sports venues, and the convention center, making it a no-brainer for all types of travelers. The real dilemma, though, will be whether you want to leave the hotel at all: along with the popular wine hour and yoga mats, amenities include a yoga TV channel, cabana-ringed outdoor pool, and in-room spa services. The stylish, pet-friendly rooms are among the largest in downtown, and have flatscreens with Web TV access, Etro bath products, iHome stations, Frette linens, animal-print bathrobes, and gourmet and organic snacks in the mini-bar (for a charge). Wi-Fi access is free for Kimpton loyalty members (it's also free to sign-up), and passes are available for the Gold's Gym Elite next door. Set on the pool deck, the Luster Rooftop Garden serves fresh juices, cocktails and light bites (and hosts a popular happy hour and DJ nights), while the Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails "gastro-lounge" draws crowds for its 33 specialty drinks, large collection of fine spirits, and menu of shareable brick-oven flatbreads and locally-sourced meat and fish.
