Hiking

The East Coast Trail. A world-class destination for hikers, some segments of the East Coast Trail start in St. John's. The Sugarloaf Trail from Quidi Vidi Village to Logy Bay will give you a great work out, spectacular views, and, depending on the season, sightings of whales and icebergs, and buckets of blueberries. Grand Concourse. A well-developed and marked trail system, the Grand Concourse, crosses St. John's, Mount Pearl, and Paradise, covering more than 120 km (75 miles). Some trails traverse river valleys, parks, and other open areas; others are sidewalk routes. Well-maintained trails encircle several lakes, including Long Pond and Quidi Vidi Lake, both of which are great for bird-watching. Detailed maps are available at tourist information centers and many hotels. Some segments are maintained through the winter. St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. 709/737–1077; www.grandconcourse.ca.
