Emily Carr House

Emily Carr House Review

One of Canada's most celebrated artists and a respected writer, Emily Carr (1871-1945) was born and raised in this extremely proper, wooden Victorian house before she abandoned her middle-class life to live in, and paint, the wilds of British Columbia. Carr's own descriptions, from her autobiography Book of Small, were used to restore the house. Catch, if you can, one of the days when an actress playing Carr tells stories of her life. Artwork on display includes work by modern-day B.C. artists and reproductions of Carr's work. You'll need to visit the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria or the Vancouver Art Gallery to see Carr originals.
