Kwisitis Visitor Centre. Perched on a point about a mile off the highway on Wickaninnish Beach, the visitor center offers insights into local culture, flora and fauna, First Nations traditions, local history, and conservation efforts; don't miss the stunning life-size carving of a whaling canoe. Park rangers are on hand to answer questions. A stroll on the long, sandy, windswept beach just outside should work up an appetite for a seafood meal at the the Kwisitis Feast House on-site, where First Nations–inspired lunches and dinners (think Dungeness crab, oysters, mussels, and halibut) are served against a backdrop of crashing surf. The Feast House is open for extended hours in the summer, after the visitor center closes. 485 Wick Rd., Ucluelet, British Columbia, V0R 3A0 . 250/726–3500; www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/bc/pacificrim/activ/activkwisitis.aspx.
