Fodor's Review:

Don't bring the kids here expecting to see dinosaur bones. This fascinating, oddball place -- in a realm somewhere between a museum and an art installation -- has a permanent collection of natural (and partly fictional) wonders such as a human horn and the "piercing devil" (a tiny bat that uses radar to fly through solid objects). Exhibits cover a grab bag of topics: old wives' tales, miniaturism, the culture of the mobile home. Head up to the second floor to the small, samovar-equipped tearoom for a free cuppa. The directions can catch you off guard as well; head east on Venice Boulevard several miles, past the 405 freeway, turn left onto Culver Boulevard, and take another quick left onto Venice Boulevard. The museum will be on your right.

For Fans of the Twilight Zone TV Show

Very strange offbeat museum--you know you're in for a "different" experience as you approach the museum where you need to ring the doorbell in order to enter (it looks like an entrance to an apartment complex from the outside)! When I first visited, I commented to one of the people that works there that it feels like a museum you would expect to see if you were in an episode of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone tv show and the person replied that the museum's "curator" (owner) was heavily influenced by the Twilight Zone and shows of that ilk. I haven't visited it recently but on previous visits, the museum is very dark with unusual exhibits that arouse the mind. I couldn't tell what was fictional and what wasn't. For those who like the offbeat and are the curious type, I highly recommend this museum. However, I want to caution that the museum while very satisfying, can be an unsettling experience for those on a first visit who don't know what to expect as the employees there fit in (purposely I'm sure) with the overall dark mood of the museum.
