Morro Negrito Surf Camp Review
California surfer Steve Thompson built this basic lodge on a coastal island in the gulf's northeast corner, near This simple lodge is near 10 excellent breaks that are usually ridden only by the two-dozen surfers the camp accommodates. The lodge rents boards ($15-25 per day) and provides transportation to nearby breaks and also offers inshore fishing, snorkeling, hiking, bird-watching, yoga, and massages. A one-week stay is usually required, but if you are in the area and e-mail the resort, you might be accommodated for as few as two nights. Rooms have tile floors, basic beds with mosquito nets, and fans. Hearty meals are served family style, and there's a small bar, a Ping-Pong table, horseshoes, basketball, hammocks, and terrace swings made from broken surfboards. Since the focus is on surfing here, the decor and amenities are not a priority. The camp has low environmental impact—solar and wind energy, recycling—and supports a local student scholarship fund, but there's only electricity at night when the generator is on.
