Hiking

Boquete is a great place for hiking, with countless farm roads and footpaths in and around the valley.

Bajo Mono. The Bajo Mono area, near Alto Quiel, has shorter trails into the park that can be explored in a matter of hours. The Pipeline Road, a dirt track that heads off the main road to the left, leads into a forested canyon with a waterfall. The Sendero Culebra trailhead is on the right from the road to Alto Chiquiero, about 1.4 km (¾ mile) from Bajo Mono Road. $3 to access Pipeline Road.

Boquete Tree Trek. Boquete Tree Trek has a four-hour hike to see waterfalls and wildlife in its private reserve. Plaza Los Establos, Av. Central, 507/720–1635; www.boquetetreetrek.com. $30.

Feliciano González. Feliciano González has been guiding hikers through Boquete's mountains for two decades. In addition to tours of the Sendero Los Quetzales and to Volcán Barú's summit, he leads a six-hour hike through primary forest on the Sendero El Pianista. 507/6624–9940. $35–$80 per person.
