How's the Weather?

Summer temperatures in Sonora are as high as they are in southern Arizona, so unless you're prepared to broil, plan your trip for sometime between October and May. Even in winter, daytime temperatures can rise above 27°C (80°F), though at night the temperature does drop considerably. Winter on the coast can also bring strong, steady winds that make temperatures seem much cooler than they actually are. The foothill towns along the Río Sonora and Álamos are generally hot in the summer, but can drop to near freezing in the winter, even during the day. Snow is not unheard of in those places, either.

As the Sonoran weather varies, so does the landscape—from fertile cropland and arid desert to stretches of sandy beaches and mountain ranges.
