La Cruz is slowly becoming more sophisticated (okay, gentrified), and Frascati combines the Old World and the New: It's friendly and intimate while simultaneously sophisticated. The ambience is mellow and earthy yet upscale. Wicker-basket light fixtures provide a moody feeling; you get a small but powerful light with which to read the menu. Background music slides between house, electronic, and aerobics-class boom-boom. Choose your pasta (several are house-made) and then one of 12 toppings, including traditionals (such as Bolognese, pesto, four cheeses, and pomodore) or something chef-inspired like the Arturito, a sauce of fresh tomatoes, cream, chicken, and basil. The mixed seafood combo, served in an oversize martini glass, is delish. In addition to lightly battered and deep-fried denizens of the deep, the appetizer comes with batter-fried julienne zucchini and crispy fried parsley.
